Description: This brief note results from my invited talk in the computer algebra session of the annual GAMM meeting 2000 at Göttingen. It shows, based on two simple examples, that not only formal integrability but indeed involution plays a role in the semi-discretisation of over-determined partial differential equations. A more extensive and rigorous treatment of this topic is contained in the paper [18] . Unfortunately, this article also shows that a conjecture made here is in fact completely wrong - bad luck :-(
