Description: As I have cited this preprint a few times, I thought that I should keep it on this list. Otherwise I would have thrown it away long ago. It contained some results from my Ph.D. thesis which have still not been published. It concerns especially an intrinsic approach to determine the correct values for the Cartan characters in arbitrary coordinate systems and thus to circumvent the problem of delta-regularity. Additional topics are a rigorous definition of over- and under-determined systems or a generalisation of the Holmgren theorem to involutive linear systems.
